As Managing Partner of HVS Asia Pacific, German-born Daniel Voellm is responsible for the operation of the Firm’s valuation, consulting and investment services for clients based in Hong Kong and throughout the region.
Daniel Voellm has provided advice in 21 territories across Asia Pacific. Prior to assuming his regional role, Daniel Voellm headed the Hong Kong office after his time as Vice President at HVS’ global headquarters in New York conducting a wide range of appraisals, market studies and underwriting due diligence services in 22 states as well as Canada.
Daniel Voellm brings a strong understanding of the hospitality industry to HVS. His experience in hotel and food and beverage operations in Germany, Switzerland, England and the United States is complemented by an Honours Bachelor of Science Degree from Ecole hoteliere de Lausanne in Switzerland.
Daniel works closely with key institutional and private owners of hotel properties, financiers, developers and investors, and has gained a strong understanding of their investment requirement and approaches to assessing market values of investment properties. Daniel further advises on property and concept development and strategy.
After heading the Hong Kong office in 2008, Daniel opened a new HVS office in Bangkok in 2013 and was promoted to Managing Partner Asia Pacific in 2014.
Daniel is chair of the Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) Hospitality Development Council in Asia Pacific.

Mr Tan Juay Hiang is the Chief Executive Officer of Ascendas Hospitality Fund Management Pte. Ltd., the manager of Ascendas Hospitality Real Estate Investment Trust (A-HREIT) & Ascendas Hospitality Trust Management Pte. Ltd., the trustee-manager of Ascendas Hospitality Business Trust (A-HBT).
Prior to joining the Managers, Mr Tan held various positions in the Ascendas group including Senior Vice President of Real Estate Funds, Senior Vice President of New Products and Markets, and Head of Corporate Strategies, where he was involved in real estate funds raising and management, real estate investments, developments, and asset management. Mr Tan was also the fund manager for the Ascendas ASEAN Business Space Fund (the ASEAN Fund), where he was responsible for structuring the ASEAN Fund, raising US$400 million from institutional investors and deploying the capital.
During his tenure with the Ascendas group, Mr Tan amassed close to 15 years of experience in real estate industry, across multiple countries such as Singapore, Japan, China, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Australia.
In 2012, Mr Tan spearheaded the initial public offering of Ascendas Hospitality Trust (A-HTRUST) (the stapled group which comprised A-HREIT and A-HBT), which was successfully listed on the Mainboard of the Singapore Stock Exchange on 27 July 2012, raising more than S$450 million from cornerstone, institutional and public investors. A-HTRUST was listed with an initial portfolio of 10 hotels across 6 cities, with an aggregate value of S$1.0 billion.
Following the listing, Mr Tan oversaw two acquisitions which had a total asset value in excess of S$400 million, adding Park Hotel Clarke Quay Singapore and Osaka Namba Washington Hotel Plaza to the portfolio of A-HTRUST in June 2013 and April 2014 respectively. As at 31 March 2016, A-HTRUST portfolio has an aggregate valuation of S$1,525 million.
Mr Tan holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree from the National University of Singapore. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University.
Mr. Seong advises multinational corporations, public corporations, private equity funds and financial institutions on their corporate legal requirements, M&A, capital raisings and dispute resolutions. Mr. Seong also advises clients in connection with cross-border investment structuring and strategies from the project initiation stage.
The location of Mr. Seong’s clients and projects include Korea, Hong Kong, China, Southeast Asia, Europe, Middle East and U.S.
Major transactions include:
– represent Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority (Mohegan Sun) in connection with the licensing and development of a casino integrated resort in Yeongjong-do, Incheon, Korea with the total investment of US$5 billion; tasks include structuring the investment and licensing, inviting investors and developing government and public relations and managing the local team for the government’s RFC/RFP procedure and licensing;
– represent Hankook Tire in connection with the proposed acquisition of retail chains in Europe;
– represent Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. (KKR Co. LP) in connection with its US$1.8 billion acquisition of Oriental Brewery from Anheuser-Busch InBev (FinanceAsia’s Best Private Equity Deal/Best Leveraged Financing Award of 2009);
– represent OCI Solar Power, an emerging leader in the solar sector, on the financing of the first phase of its 400MW solar power plant development project in the City of San Antonio;
– represent Goldman Sachs , Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley, as the underwriters, in connection with Won 4,888 billion initial public offering, and the listing on the Korea Exchange, of common shares of Samsung Life Insurance.

David Faulkner is an Executive Director of Colliers International responsible for valuation and advisory services in the Asian region. He joined Colliers International in 2003 after 15 years with Insignia Brooke, and has been based in Asia for over 30 years. He has advised on a variety of major projects in Hong Kong, China and elsewhere in the Asian region including valuations, feasibility studies, development consultancy and structuring investments. He covers all the major sectors including residential, commercial, retail, industrial, hospitality and leisure. He also acts as an independent expert in making determinations in commercial rent disputes and has advised on a number of complex property valuation issues.

Kavin Bloomer joined Morgan Stanley in 2005 and is currently an Executive Director and Board Director of Morgan Stanley Capital K.K. He currently oversees the group’s hotel asset management activities in Japan as well as supporting Morgan Stanley’s hotel asset management and acquisition efforts throughout Asia.
Kavin’s first posting with Morgan Stanley was as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Panorama Hospitality K.K. He was subsequently promoted to President and Representative Director. Panorama Hospitality was a wholly owned subsidiary of the firm and was responsible for the asset management and operations of hospitality assets owned by MSREF. The group managed assets in Japan, Australia, China, India and across Europe.
Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Kavin held senior management positions with Goldman Sachs Realty Japan Limited and Archon Group L.P., a Goldman Sachs affiliate, in Japan, USA and Thailand.
He also enjoyed a 15-year career with Starwood Hotels and ITT Sheraton Corporation, where he held a number of corporate and property level positions, including General Manager of the Westin Banyan Tree Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.
A graduate of the University of Massachusetts (Amherst, MA, USA) in 1982, Kavin received his Master of Professional Studies Degree from the Cornell University Graduate School (Ithaca, NY, USA) in 1990.
He and his wife Saniya have three children who are now in the USA (Reza – Tufts University, Jena – Cornell University and Hanan – Georgetown University).

Tommy Lai is the Vice President of ONYX North Asia, based in the Hong Kong office. In this role, Tommy heads the business development for Greater China, as well as the operations of all brands in this region.
Tommy has close to 20 years of experience in the financial, real estate and hospitality industries. Possessing extensive knowledge of Asia, his experience spans many markets such as South East Asia’s Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam to North Asia’s China, Hong Kong, Japan and Korea. Tommy has a unique blend of expertise and skills, having worked across the different functions within the real estate spectrum, from development to marketing to investments. These provide him with an in-depth and holistic understanding of the property cycle.
Tommy began his career with ONYX in 2012 as Vice President, Development, North Asia, where he expanded the Shama and OZO portfolios in Hong Kong and China, and secured new Amari deals for the region. Before joining ONYX, Tommy was Head of Investment and Business Division of a multi-billion cross-border joint-venture project, between the governments of Singapore and China. Prior to that appointment, he was AVP (Investment) of a private investment fund with more than US$2 billion AUM in Asia, where he successfully structured and transacted more than US$500 million in investment and real estate development deals in the region.
Tommy holds a master’s degree in applied finance from the University of Adelaide, and a first-class honour’s degree in building construction management from the University of New South Wales. He is currently pursuing his doctorate degree in hotel and tourism management with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Mr. Andy Yeo is a resident partner and Chief Representative of the Shanghai Office of Mayer Brown JSM. He has been a real estate lawyer for many years and advises developers, funds and other investors on a wide range of aspects in real estate from investment structure, land and building acquisition, establishment of project company, obtaining the required permits and licences, and construction, to post-completion matters including property title application, sales and leasing, and hotel and property management.
With the recent wave of China outbound real estate investment, Andy has also been working with the real estate partners of various Mayer Brown overseas offices in liaison with Chinese investors and serving their needs overseas.
Fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese, Andy graduated from the National University of Singapore and the University of Washington and is admitted to practise, and has practised, in Singapore, California, and Hong Kong.

John Alarcon holds a degree in business and administration for the Antonio de Nebrija´s University, Madrid, Spain. After completing his studies, in 2003 he attended a postgraduate degree in “International Business” at the European Business School in London granted a scholarship by the Spain Chamber of Commerce in United Kingdom. At that time he became part of the central office of “TRI Hospitality Consulting” based in London where he received an intensive training focused on market research, benchmarking and feasibility studies for hotels, resorts, golf courses, apartments, timeshare etc., in different countries, especially in Spain and Portugal. After this professional training, from 2004 to 2006 he joined to the “TRI´s Madrid Office” where he worked as Senior Consultant carrying out feasibility studies and valuations throughout Spain, Portugal and key European cities.
From 2006 to 2008 he subsequently worked as Senior Consultant in “Matlin Associates”, boutique international consultancy company, working focused on the investment particular area, specialized on assets sales and operator search processes. From 2008 until 2011 he worked as Senior Consultant at the investment department of “Aguirre Newman”, real estate and consultancy Spanish company, specialized in hotel investment area. From July 2011 to December 2015 he worked as Developer Director at Melia Hotels International covering Spain, Portugal and North Africa regions where he signed several management, lease and franchise agreements of new projects and operating hotels to be added for the Melia’s portfolio Group. From the begging 2016 he was promoted to Asia as Vice President Development Asia Pacific where he will be taking care of the Melia development growth in South Korea, Japan, Philippines and Thailand.

Mr. David Wray began his role as the Vice President of Acquisitions and Business Development in October 2015. David is based in the company’s Singapore office and is the driving force behind growing the franchise structure and management opportunities for Wyndham Hotel Group in the South East Asia and Pacific Rim region. Prior to holding this role, David was Senior Director of Acquisitions for Wyndham in the South Pacific.
Before joining Wyndham, David worked as State Manager for Choice Hotels and was responsible for the growth of the property portfolio, sales and marketing and property relationships. During his time with Choice Hotels he was heavily involved in the branding transition from Flag Hotels.
In his 15-year career in the hospitality industry, David has established a solid network of industry colleagues. He has gained extensive experience with identifying new opportunities and locations for properties, which involves analysing properties and advising on best market fit.
