SHIC 2018
S·Korea Hotel&Resort Investment Conference (SHIC) is one of the most prominent hospitality conferences in Korea, with a proven track record of successful events in 2016 and 2017, it is now entering its third year. The 3rd S·Korea Hotel&Resort Investment Conference Special Incheon will, once again, bring together over 100 regional and international investors and operators, and the region’s leading decision makers. Speakers and attendees will range from government figures and opinion leaders, as well as property, hospitality, and finance and banking professionals, to prominent architects and designers.
In the past year we’ve seen several geopolitical and economic uncertainties, which have caused many new challenges in the hotel investment sector. As Managing Partner of HVS Asia Pacific, German-born Daniel Voellm is responsible for the operation of the Firm’s valuation, consulting and investment services for clients based in Hong Kong and throughout the region.
Daniel Voellm has provided advice in 21 territories across Asia Pacific. Prior to assuming his regional role, Daniel Voellm headed the Hong Kong office after his time as Vice President at HVS’ global headquarters in New York conducting a wide range of appraisals, market studies and underwriting due diligence services in 22 states as well as Canada.
Daniel Voellm brings a strong understanding of the hospitality industry to HVS. His experience in hotel and food and beverage operations in Germany, Switzerland, England and the United States is complemented by an Honours Bachelor of Science Degree from Ecole hoteliere de Lausanne in Switzerland.
Daniel works closely with key institutional and private owners of hotel properties, financiers, developers and investors, and has gained a strong understanding of their investment requirement and approaches to assessing market values of investment properties. Daniel further advises on property and concept development and strategy.
After heading the Hong Kong office in 2008, Daniel opened a new HVS office in Bangkok in 2013 and was promoted to Managing Partner Asia Pacific in 2014.
Daniel is chair of the Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) Hospitality Development Council in Asia Pacific.

Govinda has extensive experience in real estate consulting and valuation, which includes 17 years of specialist experience in the mixed-use, hotels, gaming, tourism, and hospitality and leisure industries in particular. Over this time he has undertaken numerous assignments including financial and commercial due diligence assignments, dispute resolution, operating company /property company structuring, financial modelling, market demand and feasibility studies, property and business valuations, strategic and internal business reviews, operator searches, asset management, tourism studies, economic impact and needs assessments.
He has also worked on projects in the logistics, integrated resort, entertainment, theme park, MICE, second and retirement homes, wellness, and wider residential and commercial real estate across the UK, EMEA, Asia-Pac and Americas regions. He has appeared as an expert witness, and prepared reports in relation to disputes in national courts and for international arbitrations. He has also written a number of published articles, and is a frequent speaker and commentator at a number of hotel and gaming conferences.
Govinda, a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and registered valuer, is a chartered certified accountant with a postgraduate degree in economics, who began his career at Pricewaterhouse in audit and assurance.
Having worked as an Operations Manager for Hilton, he was the Financial Controller at the luxury Lanesborough Hotel, at which time he worked closely with the Rosewood and Starwood hotel groups at both the local and corporate level.
Govinda joined PKF in London in 2005 where he was a Managing Consultant within the Hotels and Leisure Valuation and Advisory practice.
He subsequently joined BDO’s Real Estate Valuation and Advisory team in 2012, where he was a Director responsible for the EMEA, Caribbean and Asia-Pac regions.
Govinda joined Cushman & Wakefield Singapore in 2015 where he was a Director within the Asia-Pac Valuation and Advisory team.
He is now an Executive Director at Colliers International leading the Singapore based Valuation and Advisory team, and the specialist Hotels and Plant & Machinery consultancy. He advises on, and values land and property investments involving specialist and alternative asset classes across Asia.
He is also one of Colliers’ dedicated specialist portfolio advisors and valuers in the region, and globally.
His clients include operators, developers, sovereign wealth funds, private equity, REITS, banks, high net worth individuals, governments and institutional investors.

CIO role involves the development of company’s IT structure and communications internally and externally, with the introduction of a new internet interface; CRM system and protocols for information transfer, as well as, training individuals on specialist computer software.
Property Director role involves overseeing several developments, as well as, acting as the primary property consultant and property manager to REE Corporation, a major Vietnamese developer and largest commercial office landlord in Ho Chi Minh City.
REE has an active portfolio totalling over one hundred and seventy thousand square meters of net leasable space over multiple site locations. He is also in charge of a leasing sales team disposing of 18,300 square meters of commercial office space in District 4, Ho Chi Minh City. Mr Felix Lai is an Investment Director at Gaw Capital, a global real estate fund with over US$15 billion of assets under management. He has experience investing in Greater China, Australia, Vietnam and several regional markets in Asia Pacific. Mr Lai led and successfully completed the acquisition of a portfolio of 4 operating and development assets across Vietnam including the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Danang and the IPH mixed-use commercial asset in Hanoi. He has also completed the acquisition of an office building in Perth Australia for conversion to student accommodation.
Previously, Mr Lai was with an independent investment firm dedicated to Asia Pacific, where he played a critical role in several completed transactions including a take-over of a REIT in Japan, a re-financing of a residential property developer in China, as well as a private equity funding raised for an up-and-coming Vietnamese real estate developer.
Prior to that, Mr Lai was at the Leveraged Finance team of Citigroup and worked on high-yield financing of private equity buyout and cross-border M&A transactions. Mr Lai graduated from Cambridge University with BA (1st Hons) and Master’s (Distinction) Degrees in Engineering.
